Startech
About Us

Startech exists to:

Inspire technology innovation and commercialization,
Create technology companies, and
Grow them into viable businesses in the San Antonio regional economy.

There are three avenues of economic development, growing new businesses organically, attracting new businesses to move into the area, and retaining existing business.  Startech’s major focus is on growing new businesses.

Startech, along with the State of Texas, has recognized the next frontier in economic development is “enterprise formation” – growing your own.  The rich concentration of private and public Research and Development in the local economy generates the fundamental fuel to make this an attractive and sustainable mission.

History: Startech, formerly known as SATAI, began in 1999 as a grass roots community effort to develop the San Antonio tech economy.  Individuals recognized the growth of the technology community and the region's unique strengths.  The City of San Antonio, academia, and industry joined forces around the common goals of collaboration and communication that fostered accelerated development of the technology industry sector.

Today, the organization is a private not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) Texas corporation that plays a key role in the development and implementation of initiatives that further the entrepreneurial environment and the opportunities produced by a vigorous technology economy.

Startech is a technology commercialization center with a single point-of-entry to assist researchers, inventors, entrepreneurs and other companies to turn their innovations into enterprises.  Delivery of comprehensive enterprise development services, know-how, and advice benefit the business objectives of those technology-based opportunities seeking support.  The Startech staff provide value-added services for individuals and companies to fully support the Inspire, Create and Grow continuum through four main service programs:

Enterprise Services, the South Texas Angel Network (“STAN”) , Startech Service Provider Network, and Investment Services.

The success of all of these programs, led by Startech, arm San Antonio entrepreneurs with the knowledge, skills and access to capital for turning innovations into enterprises.

Startech is supported by generous contributions from The City of San Antonio, the University of Texas at San Antonio, Bexar County, the State of Texas and private contributions.
